Artist Bio
Paul is an established artist, not as savvy with words as he is with a brush, he needed to update his Artist Bio for an upcoming exhibition. Through the gentle art of conversation we unravelled his many talents and inspirations and pieced them into a crafted narrative of his journey and present state of being.
Paul Waycott Artist
'I take solace in the sea, I search for solidarity in its dynamic cycles. It challenges and inspires my artwork’ Paul Waycott
When your daily life is punctuated with inherent beauty, inspiration for an artist is on tap. Living, working and raising his family in the small coastal town of Point Lonsdale has provided Paul with an abundance of morning skies over-looking Point Nepean, dusk skies at the Point Lonsdale back beach and a myriad of native flora and fauna to explore. Capturing the contextual light shifts with ever changing oil paint palettes, Paul works with dark seas to contrast velvet skies intent on encapsulating light in every essence. Paul’s love of nature is mirrored equally with his appreciation for the human form, as if floating on paper, the shadow and form of the body appear with romantic delicacy. Paul fluctuates from his ethereal nudes, to figurative landscapes effortlessly. He enjoys working across several mediums such as oil, acrylic, pastel and ink but recently has enjoyed refining his screen printing skills whilst producing contemporary landscapes with vivid colour preparation and execution. Contemplation and beauty beckon each of Paul’s works, and exquisite use of colours mark his individuality.
Growing up in Melbourne and completing much of his study and training whilst living in the inner north of the city, Paul commenced his artistic pursuits with a Diploma in Visual Arts from Swinburne TAFE, Prahran in 2002. He moved directly to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) RMIT, 2005 and during this time at RMIT Paul was selected to study abroad at Newcastle upon-Tyne University for six months. Further to this, Paul is now an Art Educator as well as professional artist, completing a Graduate Diploma of Education at Deakin University and a Cert IV in Training & Assessment from Box Hill Tafe in 2010. Paul now manages a VCE Art teaching position at Bellarine Secondary School whilst frequently exhibiting at several Galleries and Art Shows.
